Basement cleanout, nothing is safe.

Found boxes of old Christmas, Graduation, Wedding, and Birthday cards.  It was so much fun looking at them before they were recycled!
Remember these?!  Wish we had a full set, but we'll hold onto this one.

"Did you actually wear these?"...the answer was "yes".  I stuffed them with newspaper and they are ready for display(but Lord, where???)  I think they are about 27 years old.

We didn't just find one, but two autographed basketballs.  This was given to us as a wedding gift...and it still was pretty well filled with air!

We are signed up and our first box arrived yesterday.  "Explore the World Through Food".  I saw a friend of mine on Facebook do this and thought how much fun my kids would think this was.  The price was really good and well, Brazil arrived on our doorstep yesterday.  LOVED THIS bit of fun!

2016 Goals

See these shoes. I have them in a size 8 and they've gone exactly 250 miles as of Sunday, June 19th.   That's my 2016 goal.  10 miles a week--run, walk, jog, doesn't matter as long as I get 10 miles in each week.   This has actually been more challenging than the 15 5K's in 2015.  There is real pressure to get the miles in each week to not ruin the work/goal.  And, some weeks are just really crazy busy with kids activities, leaving very little time for me.  There is only one weekend that I banked and had to complete 7 miles on a Sunday.  I'm at my best with a 2, 4mile days and one, 2 mile day.  And, now for the other 250+ miles before 2017!

Hello Summer

Well, this was our first summer project (aka clean-up)

If you ever need a reason to not get a dog, here it is. As I went to let the dogs out this morning, they flew through the door covered in feathers.  I turned the corner to find this.  Their entire feather bed in pieces.  I walked back upstairs and said "you are going to have to wake up, I can't even..."   As we shook our heads in disbelief, we snickered, and laughed.  There are feathers floating in the air, creeping into the kitchen, in the garage, and in our street.  (*Portland, stay away from those cute Pugs!).  Buddy, I forgive you, but you will not be getting a new bed--a nice pile of blankets will have to do.

Wax Museum: Marie Curie

Sitting soooo still! Waiting to start her memorized speech

She cracked a smile when she recognized my shoes!

Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie November 1867 – 4 July 1934), born Maria Salomea SkÅ‚odowska was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win twice, the only person to win twice in multiple sciences, and was part of the Curie family legacy of five Nobel Prizes. She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris, and in 1995 became the first woman to be entombed on her own merits in the Panthéon in Paris.

She shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with her husband Pierre Curie and with physicist Henri Becquerel. She won the 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.  Curie died in 1934, aged 66, at a sanatorium in Sancellemoz (Haute-Savoie), France, due to aplastic anemia brought on by exposure to radiation while carrying test tubes of radium in her pockets during research, and in the course of her service in World War I mobile X-ray units that she had set up.

Spring in Iowa means (a lot of) soccer!

2nd Place Tournament Champions Team Calder!  Some of the best soccer to watch, they are good!
She was more excited about the face (warrior) paint than the game.

I don't care that everyone got a medal(this time), he was sooo excited!

Parent Scrimmage, no injuries this year

Sunburn nose, but hats and gloves required!!

Sometimes...

...I just take pictures of Sam because he looks so darn cool. He doesn't put any effort into his coolness, it just happens. Often.  (*soccer practice meets crazy hair day)

Jr. High Global Issues Conference

Jack was selected to participate in a conference yesterday.  I was proud of him for being recognized for his hard work in the classroom.   He was selected to represent Mexico.  Well, this was awesome because when my Grandmother lost her first husband she went onto marry Gabriel.  This is the grandfather I knew and he was from Mexico.  My Grandmother moved and lived in Mexico for years.  Jack's opportunity allowed me to share and talk about my Grandparents who have been gone for years.  It was the best part of my day.  Sharing about these people that we love so much.  I don't remember a lot about visiting Mexico (just cactus gardens, mosquito bites, and cobble stone roads), but I have the black and white picture below hanging in our bedroom.
Over Jack's shoulder is a pic of My Grandmother

Sailing with my parents and sister

My (200 yard) walk into the office looks like this!

"Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa"...

I love everything about this moment. I love this place. I love this dog. I spent about an hour with Sasha walking in light showers on Sunday morning.  Four miles of trails, mud, woods, hills, pasture, and deer (we saw 4).  It's my happy place. I imagine this is what Heaven must be like.  I really, really do.   I love Hickory Hill Park just a 1/2 mile from my door stop.Where is your happy place?

Trail run with this kid!

Jack and I headed out in crazy-ass wind on Saturday to support pediatric cancer survivorship. And, so did a few other neighbors. 4 miles of trails, mud, HILLS, and wind. Great morning.  Jack crossed the finish a good 3 minutes before me even with a sinus infection.

Kate captured this...

This is Oliver. He loves to chase sunlight and shadows. Kate snapped this beautiful picture of him this morning.
